New Year, fresh start
from Called to Conquer By Bishop Eddie Long
You Cannot Fail Now! Rise Up Higher!
Today’s Scripture Reading: Matthew 13:24–30
Key Verse: Matthew 13:24–25 Proverbs 16:3
The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field; but while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat and went his way.
The daughter of one my church members inspired me when she said, “We cannot fail now. We see what our parents are doing, and we have to rise up to an even greater level to carry on what has already been started.”
Those words of wisdom came from a child! Frankly, many adults in the church do not even understand what that young girl was talking about. She was talking, of course, about the future of the people of God.
Many of us are suffering or playing catch-up today because at some point in our lives, we laid down and went to sleep in the Spirit. We chose not to move in what God ordained for us. We paused for a nap when we should have been about the Father’s business. Then the enemy came in and sowed tares in God’s wheat field. The enemy mixed bad with the good, and now there is extra work to be done at the end of our lives before the next generation can take off!
As you prepare to enter a new year, see it as an occasion to make a fresh start. This is a good time to pick up where you left off, to complete what you left undone. Seek God’s face and ask Him to show you what to do. It is late, but it is not too late as long as you are willing to obey. In the terminology of a very wise young lady: “You cannot fail now. You see what others are doing, and you have to rise up to an even greater level to carry on what has already been started.”
Pray this prayer with me:
Heavenly Father, forgive me for sleeping when I should have been leaping to do Your will. I am making a late start, but I commit my way to You, and I ask for mercy and grace to complete the race. I will do what You ask me to do so the generations after me can walk in a true kingdom inheritance of faith and power in Jesus. I cannot fail now. With Your help, I make a new start in the race. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.
