Welcome to the Family Business
from Called to Conquer by Bishop Eddie Long
Today’s Scripture Reading: Luke 2:41–52
Key Verse: Luke 2:49
He said to them, “Why did you seek Me? Did you not know that I must be about My Father’s business?”
In this passage from the gospel of Luke, Jesus wanted to know why Mary and Joseph did not realize that He was about His Father’s business. That word business is in there for a reason.
What is the Father’s business? It is kingdom business, the only business through which you and I can affect our world and its economy today. Business is what God does. We are called to promote our King and His principles in our daily lives—at our jobs, with our friends, and even with our enemies.
Jesus put His total focus upon His Father’s business. Then He preached the kingdom and turned our world upside-down—or should I say, right-side-up? By the way, God’s business has not changed in two thousand years. Are you in business for yourself, or for Him?

In return for an eternity of unspeakable joy and the righteousness I could never afford to purchase or earn on my own, I pledge my life, loyalty, and energies to the promotion of the Ancient of Days, the risen Lord and King, and the Comforter. As for me and my house, we must be about our Father’s business.
