Open My Eyes, Lord
from Called to Conquer by Bishop Eddie Long
Today’s Scripture Reading: 2 Kings 6:12–19
Key Verse: 2 Kings 6:16–17
[Elisha said,] “Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” And Elisha prayed, and said, “Lord, I pray, open his eyes that he may see.” Then the Lord opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw. And behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.
Do you see things as they really are or as they appear to be? God says, “The way your situation looks does not matter. I say that you are more than a conqueror.” God calls us to look at things with the eyes of the spirit, not of the flesh. The things we see with our physical eyes can overwhelm us. But when we look at them through the eyes of the spirit, we see them in the light of eternity and the cross. Then we see that we are indeed more than conquerors!
The servant of the prophet Elisha could see only the enemy forces encircling the man of God. When Elisha asked the Lord to open his servant’s eyes, the man suddenly saw the fiery army of God waiting for Elisha’s command!
If only we can see with our spiritual eyes, we will realize what mighty power God has placed at our command! Pray this prayer with me:
Lord Jesus, forgive me for my lack of faith. Help me to see with the eyes of the spirit the answer that You have waiting in the wings. For You are a faithful God, and You always come through for me.
