Michael Jackson: 8 Straight Weeks At #1 On The Charts

By Marvin Marks

This week, Michael Jackson extended his posthumous streak of being at #1 on the UK album charts to eight weeks (with The Essential Michael Jackson greatest hits compilation.) He beat out Beyonce at #2 and the Black
Eyed Peas at #3.

Michael Jackson has also been at #1 in the US on Billboard’s chart for 6 out of 7 weeks.

Number Ones sold 90,000 copies in the US for the week topping a new album by Sugarland titled Live on the Inside which sold 76,000 copies.

With the 6th week at #1 for Number Ones this year, it matches the chart topping performance of Bad in 1987 which was also at #1 for six weeks. In 1991 Dangerous was at #1 for four weeks, in 1995 HIStory was at #1 for two weeks, and in 2001 Invincible was at #1 for one week.
