“We Are The World” 25 for Haiti DONATE Now!
“We Are the World” the original song, is a charity single recorded by
the supergroup USA for Africa in 1985, sold over 20
million copies and raised $63 million dollars for hunger relief in
Africa. It was written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie for the album We Are the World.
Honored numerous times —
including three Grammy Awards, one American Music Award and a People’s
Choice Award — the song was promoted with a critically received music
video, a home video, a special edition magazine, a simulcast, and
several books, posters and shirts. The promotion and merchandise aided
the success of “We Are the World”, which was eventually named the
biggest-selling single of all time.
Michael’s Mother Katherine Jackson has agreed to the use of Michael‘s original
performance in "WATW-25" for Haiti. His vocals and video parts will be included in the new
single and video, together with his little sister Janet, at Ms. Katherine’s request.
Michael‘s vocals will be the only voice from the original song for this very special recording.
The world premiere video of ‘We Are The World 25 For Haiti’ will air
during NBC’s coverage of the Opening Ceremony of the Vancouver Winter
Olympics this Friday, February 12, at 7:30 p.m. ET/6:30 p.m. CT.
The recording of ‘We Are The World 25 For Haiti’ embodies the same
enthusiasm, sense of purpose and generosity as the original recording
25 years ago. Through the contributions of the new voices to this
rendition of ‘We Are The World,’ and with the help of our partners, the
We Are The World Foundation will be committed to transparency and will
help further the spirit of activism that was at the heart of the
original song and movement.

Send The Light
Become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the
midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as
lights in the world. —Philippians 2:15
American businessman Mark Bent has spent

flashlight. Thousands have been distributed free or at low cost to
people living in African refugee camps. One daily solar charge provides
7 hours of life-giving illumination for people in homes, schools, and
medical clinics where darkness had encouraged crime and violence.
contrast between darkness and light is a prominent image in the Bible’s
presentation of Jesus the Messiah. “The people who walked in darkness
have seen a great light; those who dwelt in the land of the shadow of
death, upon them a light has shined” (Isa. 9:2). “In [Jesus] was life,
and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the
darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it” (John 1:4-5).

urged the Christians in Philippi to become “blameless and harmless,
children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse
generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world” (Phil. 2:15).
